Hello Cedar Hall Families -
Where have the last couple of weeks gone? I have really enjoyed meeting all of your children and I am looking forward to a productive and fun year with each of them in my class!
Over the course of the past few weeks, we have reviewed basic geography skills, learned about the many facets and categories of geography, learned about world organizations (such as the United Nations and other organizations that provide humanitarian aid), and about the area known as the Fertile Crescent!
This week, we are finishing up our discussion about the rise of the civilization of Sumer and their many achievements that have revolutionized the way that we live our lives today. We will also be discussing Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and learning about distinguishing fact from opinion in historical accounts. We have a test scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 over Chapters 4-6. Your child should be bringing home a piece of paper called a TIPS assignment. This requires your child to speak with you about what we are currently learning in class. This is an effort to help improve communication with you and also to allow you to play a more active role in your child's learning. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let me know.
For next week, your child will need a pair of ear buds or headphones to keep in the classroom. This is so that they can re-listen to lectures without disturbing other students in the classroom.
Next week, your children will begin to learn about the modern-day countries that are located in the Middle East such as Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc.
Hope you are having a great week!
